Support staff and engineers at an MSP are typically not on site at a client’s location when they need to resolve issues, and very often there is no direct network connection between an MSP’s office and a client site.
ServerInternals includes support for connections via an external gateway. A collector service running on the client’s system makes periodic outbound connections over secure HTTPS (and so not requiring any firewall changes) to an externally hosted gateway and the user interface at the MSP’s office also connects to this external gateway, again over secure HTTPS.
The gateway acts as a proxy between the collector and the user interface, facilitating an indirect connection between the two. This removes the need to establish a virtual private network connection to a client’s network and then remotely log in to the server to get full diagnostic information, so you won't have to disturb your clients at all, allowing you to seamlessly resolve issues with no impact on the client’s day-to-day operations.
A single gateway can be configured to run in multi-tenant mode, supporting multiple independent clients, with each client having no visibility of the systems of any other client.
The package includes all the software to install and configure your own gateway, but this will typically require an externally hosted web server to run the gateway software. A small virtual private server, supplied by a commercial cloud provider, will be ideal for this role.
Running your own gateway provides guaranteed privacy and security for all your client’s data, because then that data is only ever stored on computers that you control. However, if a suitable server is not available, we can make a test gateway available as part of the evaluation. Please contact us if you would like to use one of our test gateways.
