All data can be collected over the network, and ServerInternals does not require any additional software to be installed on a monitored computer.
A direct inbound network connection, typically over a firewall-friendly single TCP port, is all that is needed.
ServerInternals can connect to a system using one of four methods:
- Using Windows Remote Managament (WinRM)
- To an installed collector
- Using WMI over DCOM & RPC
- Via a remote gateway
WinRM is available on all recent operating systems by default, and can be enabled for Server 2008.

Connection Methods for more information.
